MensCraft Partnership

The Maddermarket Theatre is announcing a new and exciting partnership with the men’s health and wellbeing charity, MensCraft. Both Norfolk charities are coming together to share a home in Norwich City Centre with the aim of bringing communities together through engagement with the Arts. This new collaboration has been boosted by a £95,000 grant from Norfolk County Council’s Norfolk Social Infrastructure Fund.

This vital funding will allow the theatre to renovate an under-used building called the Workshop. The Workshop, which is connected to the main theatre, is in a poor state of repair, so this is an exciting opportunity to create a new, vibrant, accessible, warm and welcoming community space in the historic heart of Norwich. MensCraft will use the renovated Workshop to support more men and their families and provide creative, collaborative opportunities with the Maddermarket Theatre.

Set up in 2020, Norfolk County Council’s Norfolk Social Infrastructure Fund has awarded nearly £3 million through over 50 grants to community projects and initiatives that benefit the residents of Norfolk. This grant is part of the Council’s commitment to voluntary and community organisations. It helps strengthen local communities by providing support for local buildings and facilities.

A spokesperson for the Maddermarket Theatre said “Predominantly led by local volunteers, the Maddermarket Theatre has been a hub of community, education, and entertainment for over a hundred years. This grant to renovate the theatre’s Workshop space, and our exciting new collaboration with MensCraft, will allow us to jointly develop more effective approaches to widening access and deepening participation in the arts in Norfolk.”

Tim Allard, Development Manager, MensCraft said “MensCraft is representative of many charities and community groups who are struggling to find suitable space that meets the needs of the people who participate in our activities. The renovated space will allow us to expand our reach, to support many more men and their families and provide exciting, creative collaborative opportunities with the Maddermarket Theatre.”

The Maddermarket Theatre and MensCraft are now focusing on raising the final 20% of funds needed for the renovation.
