We are never going to need this many wedding dresses! Posted on 16th July 2020 in Maddermarket Blog

Now that staff are back in the theatre the great wardrobe clear-out which began in January has once again resumed. The latest clearance task tackled our collection of over 30 wedding dresses; which gained the attention of the Eastern Daily Press and BBC Radio Norfolk.

Amanda Greenway, our Head of Wardrobe, who has been leading the de-cluttering effort, declared that ‘We’re never going to need this many wedding dresses” after sorting through the garments. So, she took to the wardrobe’s Facebook page to sell some of the unused gowns. Her intentions quickly captured the interest of many brides looking to bag a bargain as well as costume collectors and local press outlets!

There are dresses from the 1930’s all the way through to the present day. Some will be available for as little as £50 with others priced nearer £200. All the money made from the dress sales will go straight to the theatre, providing some financial support during this period of closure. The gowns will be advertised and sold via the Maddermarket Theatre Wardrobe Department Facebook page.
