With twelve main-house shows per year, lunchtime theatre performances and a number of special events, stage crew volunteers play an essential role at the Theatre.
Our backstage volunteers are supported by the Theatre's Technical Manager and Stage Assistant, and by some of our more experienced volunteers. Training is given for all backstage roles and volunteers will typically be given smaller roles until they feel more confident to take on roles such as stage management, lighting design and rigging.
We also run technical workshops that give an overview of the different technical roles within the venue. See our What's On page for details of forthcoming workshops.
Some roles require volunteers to be available at show times and for rehearsals (usually in the evenings), other roles when there is not a show. Volunteers are usually required for our in-house productions, but occasionally opportunities may arise to get involved with visiting productions.

Volunteers are required to wear protective clothing when undertaking tasks such as lifting, transporting and rigging equipment. Safety footwear, helmets and glasses are provided where necessary.
Volunteers will not be required to work at heights, with dangerous materials or lift heavy equipment.
Copies of our Public Liability Insurance can be requested from our box office and we undertake risk assessments for each production.
Volunteers should be 18 years and over.
Please note that the Theatre's main stage, backstage area and dressing rooms are not accessible to wheelchairs. Backstage areas have low-lighting and are approached by a series of steps. The lighting and sound box has a single step up to it.
