Development Workshop 2 for THE AUDITION

Sunday 4th February, 5.45pm-8.45pm. Maddermarket Theatre, Emmerson Studio.

Who is this for? The workshop is open to anyone who is interested in being part of the production of The Audition. This will be one of two world premieres created for The MadderFirst festival in May 2018. It will be a devised piece, performed in the studio and created by the cast with innovative theatre-makers Panda Monium and Russell J. Turner.

What is the workshop? A fun, accessible workshop consisting of improvisation and devising exercises, of the sort that will be be used in the show's development.

Please note. This is the second development workshop for the show. The first was held on the 13th January this year. You do not need to have attended the first workshop to attend this one. You do however need in principle to be available to take part in the actual production, and be interested in doing so.

Performance Dates (Please note necessity for weekday daytime availability)

Mon 28th May: daytime & evening tech & dress

Tues 29th & Wed 30th (1pm), Thurs 31st & Fri 1st (7.30pm), Sat 2nd (2.30pm & 7.30pm)

Rehearsal Dates:

The rehearsal period will be more stretched and gradual than a standard Maddermarket one, to enable a devising process. The majority of rehearsals will be Mon, Tues, or Wed.

Week of the 5th March to the Week of the 2nd April inclusive: 1 or 2 rehearsals a week

Week of the 9th April onwards: 3 rehearsals a week until week of the 21st May when it’ll be 5.

About the final production: When a trendy theatre director arrives from London, a local amateur company are in for a shock. Will they take to the radical ideas and demanding new ways? Or will in fact the young director discover they've bitten off more than they can chew? Rebellions, recriminations and relationships are at the comic heart of this cheeky and experimental new work inspired and created by Norwich actors.

About this workshop: This is an opportunity for Panda Monium and Russell J. Turner to continue generating ideas for the development of the show and begin to identify a potential cast. It is also an opportunity for actors to get a no-pressure taste of the way the show will be created.

Do I need experience of devising or improvising? No. The workshop will be tailored to all level of experience. The show will be a character-based piece reflecting the reality of everyday people - you don't have to be funny! The directors will create the piece from the actors ideas - you don't have to be a writer or devising expert!
